"Leeds United have confirmed they will travel to Spytty Park for a pre-season friendly on Saturday, August 2, kick-off 3pm.

The Argus understands that will mean Newport County's scheduled game at Neath on August 1st will be cancelled."

Found this on a south wales argus website. Any truth?
Reply: Yes Newport have decided to play Leeds Reserve Team instead.

Where are supporters supposed to park at the Gnoll, particularly when the Swans play Neath next week? I ask this because it appears that there is no car park at the ground, nor on street parking near it.
Reply: As is the case with most stadia there is limited parking on site so I would arrive early if I were you. There is a 200 space car park outside of the ground or behind the railway station there is a 2000 space car park and a five minute walk.

Congratulations to Lee Bevan on being named as a stand by player for the Welsh Non League squad for the forthcoming international tournament in North Wales in May. Recognition indeed for a great season for Lee and Neath in general.

Also to mention the skipper Andy Hill in polling a high number of votes from the league managers "Dream Team" selection but unfortunately for Hillo he just missed out on making the final selection - well done Hillo mate. Target for next season 10 more goal's and make the final team!!

Are there any implications for the club when the league splits into 2 divisions of 10 and 10 starting 2009/10?

Other than the obvious need to finish top half to get into the top division or are there reasons why the club couldn't go into the top division?

A bit of advise from a ex-experienced scout,I went to watch a nephew of mine down in Nelson and the Nelson 8 had something special to offer. I spoke to him after the game, he seemed more intrested in drink, But from experience he's far capable of becomeing a talant not only for neath, but to become a great player in the whole leauge. Nice gesture by some of the Neath supporter who had made the effort to travel up to Anglesey to applaud the Llangefni fans towards the end of the match! If we were not so desperate for the points perhaps we would have settled for an amicable draw!

The boys who played against Llangefni Town showed great heart and spirit. Surely the football club should take the blame on this below par perfomance against Llangefni Town as the long travelling the players had to go through took its toll on the performance level of the squad psychologically and physiologically.
Reply: If you want - the club has to cut its coat according to its cloth and always will. Llangefni is only 15 minutes from Caernarfon and we travelled there on the same day and won!

After doing so well up until now, with a chance of going above PTT isn't it a bit daft to travel on the same day to Llangefni. 5-6hour gruelling journey starting at 6am. It doesn't bode well. The squad should have traveled on Friday

went down lido on tuesday to watch neath under 16,s academy v bgc wales very good game and some realy good quality players on show the big blond number 9 and the number 4 in the middle of the park and the 2 central defenders were outstanding for neath, very nice to see andrew dyer was there with a few of his back up team he must of been pleased with some of the youngters performances lets hope he takes them under his wing and brings them on and upwards towards senior PL football i for one hope so because it would be a shame to lose these youngters to the likes of port talbot or lido
Reply: It is always the intention Of Neath to bring youngsters on - look at success of Mattie and Lee in the last couple of years - Daniel and Gavin are both on the verge and at least three 16 year old are being closely monitored at the moment either in academy team or in reserves.

Can somebody explain the following. Tuesday night i watched Neath vs Llansawel in the cup. I couldnl't help but notice that the two young wingers that were playing for Neath were inluential to the match result and appeared to be amongst the top players in the team. I was astonished to find that in Todays game both players were left out of the starting 11. One of the two did not even make the 1st squad.
Reply: Both Daniel and Gavin are very promising players who have spent time in and around the first team squad and if willing to learn will undoubdtedly make it into the first team. At this moment they are still learning and will be guided into the first team situation by the manager as he sees fit - we have been through this with Mattie and Bevs when people where crying for them to play- it was done gradually and now they have both been turned into first team regulars, so have patience and Gavin and Daniel will soon be plying their trade in the first team, trust me!

I would like to pass on my condolences to Gary Lloyd and his family on their sudden loss on Saturday of his Dad- Gil Lloyd.

Gil is a legend in Llanelli and his passing will no doubt be a massive loss to the club and everyone who came in to contact with him as a player, manager and steward of the club. Personally I feel priveleged to have known the man and spend time with him having a chat, a pint and a fag while watching a game or in the bar after. Gil you will be sadly missed.

Just read the Haverfordwest website and their match report from Friday night, someone please tell me that they were watching a different game??!!

How many saves did Idzi make in comparison to Hovis??
Their captain Elliott was sent off for an elbow to Frenchy and even Derek Brazil says on the website that his ill discipline has cost them dearly.

There are an awful lot of people who only see one colour and I like to think when we have been poor and not deserved to win or deserved to lose we are honest enough to say so. Friday however was not the case and we deserved to win the game!!

Hope that everyone is looking forward to our first bus trip in quite a while. The Pink Ladies better get their acts together for the trip home!!

I went to watch Neath V Haverfordwest this evening 15/02/08. I spoke to the fourth official within the first five minutes and asked him to take a seat because he was obstructing my view. His exact reply was "there's plenty of seats". When I informed him that I had paid to watch the game he told me "that it's not my problem". I am very annoyed with the lack of respect shown by an official of the Welsh FA. In no way did I disrespect the official but yet his attitude was a disgrace. If I as a supporter of Neath had behaved in an unprofessional manner it would have brought shame on my club. I tell you now if Eco the Eagle was there he'd have knocked him out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've just read viv williams comments on the welsh premier site about ref's and i totally agree with what he's saying, every ref in our league is below par ( with the exception of mark whitby and dean john) , so far below par that some of they're decisions are laughable, do you think it's because none of them have ever played football and dont understand how real football is? they only know the law's of the game! that's it! that's all they know, the way they even speak to players is out of this world, as if they have some kind of power trip when they cross that white line, i bet if they were out in swansea or cardiff they wouldn't dare speak 2 people the way some of them speak to the players on a pitch, a good ref is a ref you dont really notice when you watch a game and lately its all about the ref, look at me, i'm in control, i;m in black, eeeerrrrrrrr! does anyone else agree with me?
Reply: Some are better than others and we cannot live without them - refs perfrm better when there in assessor at the game without a doubt because thaey are more relaxed and less afriad of criticism . Linesmen spend most of the game looking the wrong way because they are constantly asking the bench to sit down, which is undoubtedly the silliest rule in existance.

I must report to the public who are in no doubt waiting for the next instalment of Pen v The Pink Ladies.
On the bus on the journey home from Caersws on Saturday the challenge was thrown down by The Backseat Boy's to participate in a drinking contest which I duly accepted!!
My opponent was the club skipper Andy Hill. We agreed to drink each others drinks, therefore Hillo had to drink a can of Magners while I had to drink a can of Fosters ( borrowed from Leigh David because Hillo only drinks half pint bottles of Bud !! ).

Anyway the outcome was as follows - Hillo try to cheat and claim victory by only drinking half his can while I on the other hand headed my for fun and was duly declared the winner by a rather disgruntled Stephen Pockett. There are a few more stories to tell but you will have to read my programme notes on Saturday against Bangor City for the full low down on the Pink Ladies and perhaps more notably Andy "Jeffrey"Hammett!!

All the best boys keep trying but more importantly KEEP MISBEHAVING !!

Once again the Pink Ladies are at it !! First they drag Jarrod " Pockett Lookalike But Smaller" Price into their little gang and now they have turned on one of their own team mates Andy Hammett - just because he has a butler !!

Not only have they turned on one of their own but they have succeeded in turning Carl Shaw from a respectable senior player into a Red wine drinking nuisance - although it must be said that at least Shawsy & Pock's can handle their alcohol unlike our mighty captain Andy"Shandy Half Pint" Hill !!

With reference to the drinking challenge boy's bring it on (Saturday is fine) as I will not have a car with me and will be only to happy to partake in my second favourite pastime - yes drinking Strongbow. What's my first I hear you ask ?? Well thats obvious - taking the P**s out of the Pink Ladies and slaughtering you lot in general in my programme notes.

26 November 2007 00:00:00
Just a quick update on wat's really been happening through the eyes of the backseat boys on our recent journeys far far away, the 3 of us put our heads together 2 come up with 3 brilliant songs about the hawk the spanish taxi driver and old jug head, the songs were sang with great pride at the back of the bus and a lot of time and though went into our 3 little songs though there was no response from the 3 amigos with dyers sorting his taxi out and ray hiding from us( backing out of a drinking challange aganist 1 of our youth backseat boys mattie) we thought we better send 1 of our youth in against pencock cause he is a bit of a light weight and old jug head taking his keep young pills, then we found out that andy hammitt has got a butler....how mad is that, we knew something was up when we 1st met him by his accent ( oh rather! ) if u know wat we mean, anyway, time to go, watch out 4 our next comments coming soon!!!!!!

Following last weekend's great result in North Wales what a brilliant outcome tonight! The boys showed great character to come back for a thoroughly deserved draw after being 2-0 down.I wouldn't normally criticise match officials but I thought the number of yellow cards he handed out to Neath was excessive and spoiled the flow of the game.

after watching yesterdays neath v welshpool i was very disapointed with the committment and guts shown by some of the neath players having heard good comments obout them.some of them just seemed to have turned up and strolled through the game i think this is totally unexceptable and i would also question the quality of some of the neath players, welshpool drafted a couple of talented youngsters into the side and they are going forward by bringing these young players on
Reply: Congrats to Welshpool for a deserved win but I have to disagree with the fact that some of our players just go through the motions. Our management team is made up of characters who would not allow players to do so trust me.

do you think it would be a good idea to maybe give one or two of the promising 16/17 year olds a chance in the first team squad ,and perhaps this would generate more interest from all the other promising youngsters in the area to come and play and also watch the eagles, i also think it it will bring in more supporters if they know that home grown talent will be on show .
Reply: Yes totally agree especially as WPL rules allow two U18 players to be named on bench. The three players in our reserve team though unfortunately are not eligilble to play for first team until January because we signed them after deadline for Welsh Premier.

Good to see our gate was 198 and not 160 which was shown in the Western Mail yesterday. However the club deserves to have gates of 300+ and a lot more for derbys especially when Llanelli are a top side with good away support, lets hope everyone can spread the word what fantastic football we play at Llandarcy Park and what good value people can get for a fiver.Anyone with the technology so that all supporters with the will to help can print off A4 posters from this site to take around their area from the Mondays before each Saturdays home game?
Gate stats
27 September 2007 00:00:00
Top 5 average gates,RHYL 492,BANGOR 442,ABERYSTWYTH 352,CARMARHEN 323,TNS 321,only the 3 most poorly supported clubs have averaged less than 191,so come on everyone, spread the word and tell the people of Neath and Swansea East what a cracking local team they have and to come and take a look at the marvelous facilities at Llandarcy Park.
CONCERNED
26 September 2007 00:00:00
Very concerned to see that Neaths home gate on Wednesday was again the lowest of the games involving Welsh Premiership clubs despite it being a local derby against the top team who have good away support. After the wonderful progress and achievement the club has made this is dissappointing, everyone needs to spread the word when we are playing because the local newspapers do not always do a good job of this, in fairness to them they probably have numerous events to cover and probably need regular prompting, has the club got a press officer and if not are there any retired persons out there who could volunteer for the job,and other supporters who can just volunteer to put a few posters around before each game? The club deserves better support, without it we are at a huge disadvantage to compete with the best.
Reply: Whilst I completely agree that the club should attract better support, the game at Haverfordwest against Carmarthen attracted 181 people compared to our 198, the rest of the games were of a similar size to ours(within 20 people) with the exception of the games at TNS and Rhyl who got a lot more.

Don't you think it's a bit rich that you lot are talking about money. You did exactly the same in the Welsh League and now that you are in the Premier you don't like it when other clubs have got a bit more than you.
The reply to one of the comments below was a bit over the top eh Tony, not befitting of a club secretary.
You should listen to some of the comments from fans who have been watching their teams in the WPL for many seasons they are merely saying what they think will happen in the league, perhaps in two or three seasons time Neath could be challenging for a top three position but you will have to consolidate first.
Reply: I know you won't believe me but I'll tell you anyway - we were FAR FAR from the top payers in the Welsh League last year and won it! As for being over the top I cannot abide dishonesty - Secretary or not!

A question
20 September 2007 00:00:00
I am a fan of neath and watched the llanelli game today. I think that llanelli deserved to win the game to be honest but would like to ask the question whether they looked fitter than neath because i really don't think they did. These boys are supposed full time pros and let's be fair looked like an overweight team! Andrew Mumford looked like the Honey Monster running round and Mark Pritchard is not far behind! We were the fitter looking team by a mile, Llanelli's fittest looking player is forty fu##ing one! To call yourselves full time pros is a proper insult to football - your best player is a firefighter(respect to you Rhys) and good luck to him because he will never leave a decent profession to join the shambles that you displayed tonight. Yea you won and well done but full time - do me a favour! Not many of you deserve to be able to call yourselves full time pros as your results in Europe show. Well done Neath - you lost yes, but probably saved yourselves 4k in wages! If they are full time I'm a fu@@ing scrum half!
No wonder
20 September 2007 00:00:00
I have just heard from a good sourse the reason why llanelli are full time and the money behind them and fair play you have to say well done to the company for getting behind them because it is clearly being reflected in the side - www.welikepies.com are the main sponsor - Mumford is the captain and pritchard the patron! Full time pro's - use to be, stick to the pies it's what you are good at.

Llanelli played well considering the amount of money spent on assembling that band of mercenaries. Cash is King. I found it incredible that the Turk massive(who didn't stop sininging) spoke about Gary Lloyd's magic hat. Magic wallet more like. Don't they realise HE GOES WHERE THE MONEY IS ! Top of the League but never going to win the league.

hi guys,i came on to your site to give you and your team praise, was nice to see some passionate visiting support, you played well on the day ,but never looked like scoring, your game plan was to stop us from scoring and catch us on the break,i dont think we will win the league either but i know one thing we will be closer to it than you will,as for saying we are clowns all i can say is from what i heard from one of your fans all game is that donkeys,so if we are clowns your donkeys, never mind we will come to your place and i cant see you beating us,you dont have the fire power up front to scare the top teams, you will do well this seaon ,but you will end up just above relegation zone, which is good really after stepping up,consolidate and go from there,as for a club house i totally agree, its pathetic that a team like rhyl dont have one, bangor sh--e dont have one either, you will beat llangefni next week end as they are a poor team, have a good seaon ahead and be good
Rules
10 September 2007 00:00:00
One rule for one and one rule for the other. Handball by Rhyl(caught) = no penalty; handball by Neath (accidental) = penalty. Homer cheating weak tosser! Rhyl management allowed in refs room at half time , Neath not, Homer cheating weak tosser! Hopefully you will read this ref you cheating homer!

Two consecutive weeks a ref has bottled games with Neath involved. Incidental or sinister. Surely if there is conclusive proof of indescretions against Neath it is the responsibility of management to draw this to attention of the FAW. Or am i being very stupid to the fact it would be covered up. At the moment it seems refs are leaning towards the others and discriminating against the "new" boys.

watch the game at rhyl, thought the boys were robbed and with a bit of luck could have scored on a number of occasions, they did really well and played some good football, the team is getting better every game, didn't think it was a pen and if it was then we had 1 the same in the 1st half that wasn't given and as for the comments on our website from the rhyl fans about giving us a football lesson and beating us 6-0 is that why for the last 10mins of the game your strikers were keeping the ball in the corners wasting time! i think we gave u a bit of a shock.

Just like to wish you all the best for saturday and the forthcomming season. I'm sure that when all the adrenaline will be put into your performances then you will be much better than you were at the Re/max last weekend. The occasion obviously got to some and rightly so we can remember when we were the new boys. It will be hard but you have some real quallity players and will do ok when you settle. Again all the best from the Burns Rd.

sorry but the watcher was right but his info was wrong .carl did play in herbies team but in an exhibition match to open coelbrens new pitch and dressing rooms representing the neath league where carl used to play for cwm.apparently it was a terrific day for the coelbren club.congrats to them!he also asked willy coope tocome out of retirement but willy wanted too much appearance money!!lol!!
Reply: It doesn't surprise me in the least bit that Carl was out doing his bit for the community- he's a credit to football and to Neath- but as you should know is committed to Welsh Premier football next year - will score goals, inspire young players and keep the dressing room entertained! Just won Managers player of the year, top goalscorer and Welsh League for the first time in his career-wants to play for HIS club in top flight!

Hello , i was wondering if anyone could help me , I am a disabled supporter and was wondering what the parking situation was for the club as I want to come to the friendly against Swansea city. Also is seating first come first served i would need 3 places one for myself and my career and another person in the party.
Reply: Disabled access is via Gate 2 at Llandarcy Park where you will be looked after accordingly, and located in the disabled area - car parking is provided for disabled badge holders in the main car park. Please call me to arrange and I will verify your entry with the necessary bodies and you will be catered for accordingly.

Is it true that we have signed john french from port talbot. If so not bad at all. I also heard Nicky jones being mentioned again from Newtown. What i would like to see is another Port Talbot player in the shape of Robert Cockings. I've heard that he is done with port talbot this year due to increased work commitments and if thats the case then a signing would be great even if he couldnt play every week. He has experience every where across the pitch and is a superb player that would bring something extra. What do others think. P.S He nearly joined last season as well so who knows??

Hello Tony,

Just wanted to congratulate yourself, Andy and all the back team staff with your promotion this year. After working as Groundsman, then Head Groundsman for 22 years work at Llandarcy Park I have seen a lot of people come and go.

I hope this great team stays together and i`m sure will hold their own in this new venture for the club, I just wanted to say thank you for helping myself and the Groundstaff make some hard decisions over the years in regards to calling games off. You know yourself how difficult it can be.

I hope the grounds stay in the condition you have enjoyed over the last few years in playing at Llandarcy, Stuart Williams is now nearly appointed Head Groundsman and i`m sure he`ll do a great job.

Kind Regards and Best Wishes,

Neil

many thanks to all teams who took part helping to make it a great day, official starter jim ward done his usual top class job but had an apprentice to help in roger! some super stories come out from the day perhaps we should rename the nearest to tpin to nearest miss of the car, although it no one won the car there were plenty of good trys including happy homes secret weapon in 80 yr old dai who has shot 8 aces in his career so far and is still playing to his handicap of 10.

All jokes aside Mr Melding, Neath will embark on their greatest adventure as a club next season. It is crucial the people of Neath and all surrounding areas support the team next year. An opportunity like the one facing everyone involved in the club does not happen too often. Look at Briton Ferry and the Lido who are still trying to get back there. Debate about whether the team will stay in the League is premature and frankly pointless. To ensure survival is something I think has happened already with initial recruitment of players and with the current squad I suspect is something which will happen anyway. The increase in support and revenue will allow Neath to compete with other teams on an equal footing (apart from TNS and Llanelli who are LOADED !)
People of Neath and surrounding areas get behind YOUR team. I for one will certainly be doing so !

May I give a massive thank you to Dinas Powys for the way thay conducted our game on Saturday. A great welcome was given us, a guard of honour was given the players onto the pitch and the match ball presented to us after the game. During the 90 minutes no quarter was given and Dinas provided us with one of our biggest tests of the season and we were grateful to win 3-2 after a great battle. A lesson in SPORTMANSHIP for some teams around the Welsh League and a big thank you to Nicky and his team who showed those around them how to conduct themselves. The match ball is now in our trophy cabinet and fair play we will always remember Dinas Powys for this gesture. It is a shame that the trophy had not been presented there instead of the week before, because if it had it would have been done properly.

No the reason I passed on our stuff to you was because Bob Waygood told me in an e-mail last month it would be the home side's responsibility:

'One thing to bear in mind - the match programme will be the responsibility of the Club who is given the match. [i.e. Neath Athletic OR Garden Village]'

Slightly disappointed at the one Neath (Skewen) fan who decided to name call and gripe about Ely Rangers AFC, with regards to the comment that people from Ely did not hand clap the receiving of the trophy - that is NOT correct, club members were there and clearly participated, however the players were focussed on the game as most sensible people would note - Ely Rangers AFC extended a warm hand of welcome to Neath to ensure they could collect the trophy - ask yourself the question - would you let your players who were still fighting to stay up in the league watch another team collect a trophy - it just doesn't make sense..not sour grapes just simply sensible preparation. We wish Neath all the best for next year...in spite of the comments from the Neath fan I would like to think we will be back up next year, we have a strength and depth of young home grown players of pure quality, we own our own club and are not heavily dependent on sponsors, the platform is built - our focus is on our future.....
Reply; That's your opinion which of course you are entitled to - I would draw your attention however to the fact Pontypridd gave Afan Lido a guard of honour at their recent home game for reaching the Welsh Cup Final, this was a game in which they were still both going for the Championship- I think it's called SPORTSMANSHIP!

Well done to everyone at Neath Athletic your success is well deserved.

You made a brave decision to merge two season's ago and that has paid huge dividends.

Good luck for the Welsh Premier League - go and show them how good you are.

Best wishes from the Committee and players at Newport YMCA

Great win again yesterday to coincide with receiving the championship trophy, well done lads. Will be updating the Golf programme this week so would be grateful if those collecting the sponsorships and entry fees would let me have them this coming week either by post or in the club Tuesday night to me or Jim.Dont forget if you are keen supporters of the club or wish to show your appreciation for the efforts in getting the club to the WPL,please if you can spare £10 sponsorship and get your name on the Golf Day Sponsorship Promotion Roll Of Honour, its sure to be a collectors item! Thanks once again to the many who have already shown their support. There are still tee times available for those who want to try and win the brand new Audi Car from Swansea Audi.(Tel 07717000480)

At yesterdays game against Ely to see the lads lift the trophy because they are CHAMPIONS. A deep lack of respect shown by Ely - sour grapes I imagine because they are so Shite and going down - when the trophy came out they went in with not so much as one clap of appreciation. This proved good motivation for the lads who outclassed an undisciplined and hapless bunch of useless no hopers without getting into second gear. I stood next to some of their supporters who shouted ' they are shit' to our team. If we are shit having scored 94 goals and amassed 86 points so far this season the Ely's return of 47 goals scored and 26 yes 26 points makes them really really really shit. Up yours Ely and enjoy trying to survive in the second div, we're off to TNS, Llanelli and Rhyl and won't miss visiting your backward little set up. Au Revoir Toisers!

Is it correct that the club are looking for trained stewards and first aiders for next season or volunteers to be trained for these positions? If so when should they apply and to whom?
Reply: To me directly and ASAP.
WE CAN DO IT!

Well said Beni, lets hope everyone can get their act together.Neath Rugby are already pursueing next seasons potential sponsors by telephone, email, post and visits.Lets hope everyone at Neath Athletic will be doing similar and not leave it till everyone else has taken the sponsorship budgets of local business. Is the price list for advertising boards and programme ads for next season out yet?Perhaps all staunch supporters can then go out and try to obtain ,give them 10% commission or a credit off their season ticket for bringing in the money to ensure we have a more than healthy start in the WPL. Shirley already does a marvelous job but if everyone can also do their bit to back her up the club can go from strengh to strength as a vibrant united team on and off the pitch.

Who would you vote for as player of the season. What a difficult choice, Carl Shaw has been outstanding to be top scorer this season, how many starts did he make and how many times did he come off the bench? Bevs and Mattie were also superb as was Rob Folland ,Pocks, you could probably name the whole team!
Reply: A difficult job because they have all been fantastic!

Congratulations to you on winning the title, been a great season for you and one that you have deservedly got your desired outcome. Hope you go on and do the business in the Welsh Premier to prove those doubters wrong and to prove just how strong this league is

One other comment, who is the sick person that has decided to use the name of Ryan Preece in vain, Ryan was a fabulous guy and someone who we all miss. I hope the club have the decency to remove the offending post.
Reply: Thanks for the message Dai . I have removed the name of Ryan- I am not familiar with the background but apologise if someone has used this website to cause offence. All the best.
